Processional: Sing a New Song The first reading tells us to “sing and play to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.” And so we enter, singing songs of praise. ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 34: R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the Lord; the lowly will hear me and be glad. Glorify the Lord with me, let us together extol his name. I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Look to him that you may be radiant with joy, and your faces may not blush with shame. When the afflicted man called out, the Lord heard, and from all his distress he saved him. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them. Taste and see how good the Lord is; blessed the man who takes refuge in him. Offertory: Shepherd of Souls, Refresh and Bless The readings for today center around the Eucharist and the mercy of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The focus of this Eucharistic hymn is on asking God for faith and trust in Him as we receive Him through the sacrament. Communion: Taste and See This hymn quotes psalm 34, which gives praise to God and encourages us to have faith in Him. Recessional: We Are Called As we are called to do by the readings, we are sent forth to “Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord,” to “act with justice,” to “love tenderly,” and to “serve one another.” Processional: Immaculate Mary
With this hymn, we praise Blessed Mother’s constant purity and beauty. ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 45: R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. The queen takes her place at your right hand in gold of Ophir. Hear, O daughter, and see; turn your ear, forget your people and your father’s house. So shall the king desire your beauty; for he is your lord. They are borne in with gladness and joy; they enter the palace of the king. Offertory: Daily, Daily Sing to Mary Blessed Mother has shown us through many visions and miracles that she is always here to help us in times of trial, and to intercede for us when we humbly ask her. If we let her, she can be our greatest friend, comfort, and ally not just when we’re struggling, but every day. Communion: One Communion of Love Let us remember we are receiving Jesus in his entirety when we take Communion. We must take the necessary steps through the Sacrament of Penance and proper spiritual preparation to receive the powerful graces granted to us through this sacrament. Recessional: Hail, Holy Queen Enthroned Above As defined by the Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church, she has attained what is promised of all saved Christians in the end: the unity of body and soul in Heaven. We praise her and ask for her intercessions on our behalf. Processional: We Are Called
We are called to hear God’s word and grow in confidence that when our day of judgement arrives, He will know us from our good works. ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 34: R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Offertory: Panis Angelicus in English Our readings today focus on the bread of life, aka, the Eucharist. This hymn is a traditional hymn sung as a reflection on this sacrament. Originally in Latin, we sing the English so that you can better understand and enjoy this ancient prayer. Communion: I Am the Bread of Life Jesus told us “I am the Bread of Life. You who come to me shall not hunger; and who believe in me shall not thirst….and I will raise you up on the last day.” Let us never insult his gift by receiving Communion without proper spiritual preparation. Recessional: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling God calls us to praise Him not because He is a controlling God who demands sacrifices for satiation, but because He is a wholly loving God, who created us out of love, gave us souls out of love, and gave His only Son to save us from our own mistakes out of love. With such mercy, why do we constantly turn away from Him? Processional: Gather Us In
We invite the Holy Spirit into our hearts as we prepare our minds for the readings of the day. ~ Margaret-Mary Owens, organ, and Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano Psalm 78: R. The Lord gave them bread from heaven What we have heard and know, and what our fathers have declared to us, we will declare to the generation to come, the glorious deeds of the Lord and his strength and the wonders that he wrought. He commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heaven; he rained manna upon them for food and gave them heavenly bread. Man ate the bread of angels, food he sent them in abundance. And he brought them to his holy land, to the mountains his right hand had won. Offertory: O Living Bread from Heaven Jesus says “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” Let us be reminded that God continues to send us bread from Heaven in the Eucharist, which celebration we are about to enter. Communion: Gift of Finest Wheat Grant, O Lord, that what we have taken with our mouth we may receive with a pure mind; and that from a temporal gift it may become for us an eternal remedy. Recessional: Alleluia! Sing to Jesus Let us lift our voices in praise to our Savior, Jesus Christ. Processional: The Summons
The words of The Summons ask us if we are ready to assume the responsibility of listening to Christ and making the changes in our lives needed for our own salvation. Are we ready to listen? ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 145: R. The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs Let all your works give you thanks, O Lord, and let your faithful ones bless you. Let them discourse of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might. The eyes of all look hopefully to you, and you give them their food in due season; you open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. Offertory: God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending With this hymn we thank God for all the gifts He has given us; for our lives, for His death, for the ultimate Treasure He has given us in the form of the Mass. ~ James McCarthy and Margaret Communion: Let the Hungry Come to Me God invites us to receive the Eucharist as the most direct and powerful way to receive Him, as given to us through the sacraments of the Church. Now in this time of preparation, we must make doubly sure to be fully prepared to receive Him into our hearts, and to make sure that we receive Communion with intention, humility, and without the stain of mortal sin on our souls. Post-Communion: Jesus my Lord, My God, My All Our post-communion hymn for the month of July is intended to remind us that above all things, we must cherish our Lord, who is all good. Through him, all things are possible. Recessional: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling Help us, O Lord, to do your will in all things and to live our lives as good and holy examples of your undying love. We ask this in your holy name, Amen. Processional: Here I Am, Lord
Jesus spoke to crowds of people, saying that those who hear the Word and understand it will bear fruit. Through the words of our hymn, we reaffirm that we have heard his call and will continue to persevere in following the words of Jesus Christ and to the teachings of the Catholic Church, especially when thorns appear throughout our daily lives and threaten to choke us. ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 23: R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage. You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come. Offertory: The King of Love My Shepherd Is Our Offertory hymn directly reflects the words of Psalm 23, which tells us of our Lord's goodness and desire to lead us when we choose to follow Him. Our faithfulness will be justly rewarded all the days of our life. Communion: Give Thanks and Remember In our Communion hymn, we sing of His gift to us: the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ in the form of simple bread and wine, given freely to us so that we may believe and follow Him as the disciples did 2000 years ago. Post-Communion: Jesus my Lord, My God, My All Our post-communion hymn for the month of July is intended to remind us that above all things, we must cherish our Lord, who is all good. Through him, all things are possible. Recessional: Lord of All Hopefulness God is present in every moment of our lives, whether we’re aware of it or not. With each stanza of this hymn, we invite Him into our hearts and ask Him to watch over us as we wake, work, travel, and sleep. Processional: Lord, You Give the Great Commission
~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 85: R. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation I will hear what God proclaims; the Lord - for he proclaims peace. Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him, glory dwelling in our land. Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. The Lord himself will give his benefits; our land shall yield its increase. Justice shall walk before him, and prepare the way of his steps. Offertory: Take Up Your Cross "Take up your cross," the Savior said, if you would my disciple be; take up your cross with willing heart, and humbly follow after me." This hymn encourages us to follow Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Communion: We Remember Our respect for the Eucharist should never be confined only to the 15 minutes after the reception of the Body and Blood that He is physically present with us. We must remember to keep Him in our thoughts and minds all the days of our lives, and to live as faithful servants of Christ. Post-Communion: Jesus my Lord, My God, My All Our post-communion hymn for the month of July is intended to remind us that above all things, we must cherish our Lord, who is all good. Through him, all things are possible. Recessional: The Summons The words of The Summons ask us if we are ready to assume the responsibility of listening to Christ and making the changes in our lives needed for our own salvation. Are we ready to listen? Processional: Christ Be Beside Me
We ask God to be with us as we enter His house and give praise to His most holy Name. ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 123: R. Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy To you I lift up my eyes who are enthroned in heaven - as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters. As the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord, our god, till he have pity on us. Have pity on us, O Lord, have pity on us, for we are more than sated with contempt; our souls are more than sated with the mockery of the arrogant, with the contempt of the proud. Offertory: I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light What better way is there to give thanks to our God than by living our lives in order with our Creator’s wishes? Let us find strength in His infinite mercy and love, and use the sacraments He gave us to grow closer to Him. Communion: One Communion of Love Let us remember we are receiving Jesus in his entirety when we take Communion. We must take the necessary steps through the Sacrament of Penance and proper spiritual preparation to receive the powerful graces granted to us through this sacrament. Post-Communion: Jesus my Lord, My God, My All Our post-communion hymn for the month of July is intended to remind us that above all things, we must cherish our Lord, who is all good. Through him, all things are possible. Recessional: America the Beautiful - United States Navy Band This anthem, written by Katherine Lee Bates, needs no introduction. This is a church-approved hymn chosen to pray that God blesses our country in honor of the Fourth of July weekend. Processional: There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy
We approach with open hearts and an eagerness to correct our faults and praise the One who has made all things possible. ~ Sofia Scattarreggia, soprano, and Margaret-Mary Owens, organ Psalm 30: R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me I will extol you, O Lord, for you drew me clear and did not let my enemies rejoice over me. O Lord, you brought me up from the netherworld; you preserved me from among those going down into the pit. Sing praise to the Lord, you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger lasts but a moment; a lifetime, his good will. At nightfall, weeping enters in, but with the dawn, rejoicing. Hear, O Lord, and have pity on me; O Lord, be my helper. You changed my mourning into dancing; O Lord, my God, forever will I give you thanks. ~ Sofia and Margaret Offertory: Healer of Our Every Ill No matter our problems or our situation in life, God has a plan for us, and He will hear our prayers if we align our lives according to His Word. We ask Him in this hymn to help us serve Him by serving others. ~ Sofia and Margaret Communion: Draw Near Our Communion hymn encourages us to come to God with open hearts and hymns of thanksgiving. “Let us approach with faithful hearts sincere, and take the pledges of salvation here...Heavenly bread makes those who hunger whole.” ~ Sofia and Margaret Recessional: Alleluia! Sing to Jesus Let us lift our voices in praise to our Savior, Jesus Christ. Refreshed and reminded of God’s good grace, let us share His graces by living as model Catholics and providing strength to others when stability elsewhere is hard to find. ~Sofia and Margaret |
